Version 7 Preview

Version 7 is coming!

It can do less than version 6.

Let us explain.

Does anyone still use Zip archives to save storage space? The risk of a damaged archive outweighs its usefulness. The biggest space hogs, media files, are already compressed anyway, making zipping them useless.
FTP for the small homepage? There are good and free tools for that. Few hosting providers still support the old, unencrypted FTP protocol. But we don't want to be experts for modern Internet protocols, that is too far off from Backer's purpose.
Where we added a modern protocol is with sending the log by email. That can only be done with encryption nowadays. Because the log belongs to Backer's core functions, we brushed it up.

In general, version 7 polishes everything that is still good and useful in version 6 today.

We have completely reworked the main window:

Here you can now see everything important at one glance. Today everybody has a big screen, so Backer uses your screen estate.

The info window for the search is also integrated.

What you find unimportant you can collapse.

Backer 7 also fixes the little display errors that Backer 6 shows under Windows 10 and 11.

In total, we are proud that we have breathed new life into our 28-year-old tool.
